Petcube vs Furbo vs Petzi – Dog Cameras Comparison
Petcube overall info
The primary purpose of Petcube is to let our pets enjoy the same benefits of technological evolution as we do. With this goal in mind, back in 2012, a small group of enthusiastic people created a new company. And in 2013, the world saw the first Petcube Camera. The idea of this product belongs to one of the founders whose dog suffered from separation anxiety.
Today Petcube has two products – Play 2 and Bites 2. The second one allows you to reward your dog with treats and costs $250. The price is a bit higher side, but buying this product, you know that you’re getting a quality camera made in the USA.

Customers are generally satisfied with Bites. However, some aof them have issues with the quality of the sound and the picture. But those seem to be rare exceptions.
Furbo overall info
Furbo Dog Camera: Treat Tossing
Dog Camera with Full HD and 2-Way Audio, Compatible with Alexa, and Real-Time Smart Alerts
Furbo is a dog camera created by Tomofun in 2014. It was a debut product of this pet technology startup, and Furbo quickly found many fans. Tomofun launched a campaign on Indiegogo to gather the necessary funds, and they reached the goal within 8 hours.
That’s how Furbo became one of the fastest-growing crowdfunding campaigns. Today it’s one of the most popular dog cameras with a treat dispenser advertised by many celebrities.
Just like Petcube’s Bites 2, Furbo costs $250. Although you can find it on Amazon sold with a $50 discount if you’re lucky. The product has a 4 out of 5 stars rating as most buyers are content with this camera.
Some customers have issues with an app, and not all clients are fond of the dispenser that throws treats across the room and gets jammed quite often.
Petzi overall info
Petzi Treat Cam
Dog Camera with Treat Dispence and Night Vision Mode, Supports iOS and Android
Petzi treats cam is made by Wagz – the US-based company that creates smart solutions for dog owners. It is the youngest brand in our comparison since Wagz was founded in 2015. They claim to know what our pets want because they’re dog owners themselves. But let’s be fair here. Both Furbo and Petcube were created by dog owners, as well.
Petzi is the cheapest camera on our list. It costs only around $100, and you can find it on Amazon. However, the low price must’ve impacted the quality since this product has the lowest rating – just 3.2 out of 5 stars.
While some customers absolutely love it, many negative reviews are telling us about issues with the connection to the Wi-Fi network and the quality of the video. Although, that must be the price we have to pay for saving some money.
Petcube has a dispenser that is suitable for a wide range of dry treats, and the mechanism is rather quiet. Which is an excellent quality because many pets can get scared of the sudden noise a lot of dispensers make. The only flaw is that sometimes Petcube dispenses two treats instead of one. But that’s not a big issue.
Furbo works best with round treats 0.4 inches in diameter. However, some customers complain that no matter what kind of treats they pick, the dispenser tends to get jammed because of its design.
Petzi has a dispenser that works with most treats and rarely gets jammed. Although the mechanism is rather loud, and some dogs get terrified from this sound. Also, there is an alarm that warns the pup about the incoming threat, and its sound is too loud.
Clearly, Petcube has the best treat dispenser.
Petcube’s night vision works quite well. You can get a black-and-while clear picture with the center area being a bit lighter than the edges. And there is a bit of a fish-eye effect. But the difference is insignificant, and it doesn’t impact your ability to see your dog perfectly well in pitch darkness.
Furbo also offers a rather good quality of its night vision. The picture is sharp and clear. There are fewer differences in lightning than in the case with Petcube’s Bite 2, and Furbo’s camera doesn’t have that fish eye effect.
The night vision feature is not the cheapest technology out there. So quite predictably, Petzi’s ability to capture the picture in the darkness is not good. The camera shows only a small area when it’s dark, and the quality of the picture is low. Also, some buyers report that they can’t see anything at all in darkness.
When it comes to the night vision, Furbo wins.
With 160° view angle Petcube can capture the whole room giving you the full picture of what’s going on. So it doesn’t matter where you install the camera – from almost every viewpoint, you will see all you need.
Furbo has the same 160° view angle, and there is no difference between the pictures Petcube and Furbo offer. Both cameras can capture the whole area without any distortions.
The view angle of Petzi is a bit narrower – only 110°. It won’t capture the room completely. Still, it allows you to see quite a lot. You can try to find the spot from which this camera will give you the best view.
Since both Petcube and Furbo have the same view angle, we would say that they proudly share the win leaving Petzi behind.
There are almost no complaints about the safety of Bites 2 by Petcube. Only a couple of customers had issues with the connection to the Wi-Fi. That allows us to assume that these situations occurred due to some problems with the network that existed before.
Furbo has more users that are not satisfied with the reliability of the camera. The fault seems to be on the side of an app that frequently freezes and disconnects from Furbo. The number of customers who have difficulties connecting to the camera is quite large – around 20% of buyers experience issues.
Petzi seems to disappoint many users because of the poor connectivity of the camera. Almost half of the buyers report having various connection issues.
Someone’s gadget always loses the connection to the Wi-Fi. Some customers had a chance to enjoy the camera for a while before it lost the connection and never found it again.
Bites 2 by Petcube is the most reliable camera, even though it might sometimes have connection issues.
Design and Size
Bites 2 has a sleek rectangular design that doesn’t stand out much. You can both hang and place this camera on the table. The size of the device is 5.7 x 3 x 10.6 inches, so Petcube is quite compact, and it won’t be hard to find a spot for it.
Furbo is somewhat barrel-shaped, and you can place this camera only on the surface. It seems impossible to hang the device to save some space and get a better view. The size of Furbo is 5.9 x 4.7 x 8.9 inches, and it looks quite good.
Petzi has a rectangular shape, just like Bites 2, but it looks less stylish, in our opinion. You can hang this camera on the wall or just put it somewhere on the table. Petzi’s height is 8.8 inches, and there is no information about other dimensions. But this camera is larger than Bites 2 and Furbo.
Bites 2 is a winner here because you can hang it, and it doesn’t stand out much.
Petcube’s users report the quality of its two-way audio to be quite good. They can hear the dog, and the speaker makes the voice of the owner sound clear. Some users complain that the noise is distorted, but this issue might occur due to the poor quality of the Wi-Fi network.
Furbo’s two-way audio is of decent quality, but there is a bit of a delay. Some customers write in their reviews that the quality of the sound is terrible. But it seems like Furbo has fixed this problem with software updates.
Petzi has only one-way audio that allows you to speak to your pet. The quality of the sound clearly depends on the network. The video this camera captures comes without any audio.
Petcube’s Bite 2 wins once again with its high-quality two-way audio that, in most cases, works well.
Petcube’s Bites 2 is the most expensive camera at this point. Its price is $250, which is more on the expensive side. You can find dog cameras that will be much cheaper. However, buying Petcube, you can be sure you will get a high-quality product that is worth its money.
Furbo also comes with a price tag of $250. However, now you can find it on Amazon $50 cheaper and buy it only for $200. Thus, you get a quality dog camera that is a bit cheaper than Petcube.
Petzi is the cheapest on this list. Its price is only $118, which is half of the money you have to pay for Furbo. Of course, Petzi’s quality is significantly lower than that of Furbo and Petcube. But it’s a good budget solution.
Furbo wins this comparison, but only because of the current discount. There is no information on how long will it be sold with $50 off.
Bites 2 offers a 4x digital zoom. There are no reviews that could tell us how good or bad it is. But we think it is safe to assume that the zoom on Petcube works well since the overall quality of the picture is good.
Furbo also has a 4x digital zoom, but in the case of this device, there are reviews about this feature. Users report that the picture gets a bit distorted when zoomed in. It’s safe to suppose that Petcube’s zoom will also pixelate the image slightly.
There is no zoom feature in the Petzi camera.
Since we failed to find any reviews that would tell us something about the quality of Bites 2 zoom, we consider Furbo to be the winner here. Even though there are distortions in the zoomed image, we at least know about them.
Video Recording and Cloud Storage
Buying Bites 2, you should also opt for a Petcube Care subscription, which starts from $47.88/year as it offers you a lot of advanced features, including automatic video recordings and multi-day cloud video history. Without Petcube Care, you will see the last four hours of recordings for free.
Furbo comes with a 90-day trial that includes cloud recordings. You will learn the price of this premium subscription after the trial ends. But users report that its cost is around $70/year. There is also no information about the capacity of cloud storage.
Petzi doesn’t have a record feature. You can only take a photo and store it in the memory of your device.
Petcube is a winner here simply because its subscription is cheaper than the Furbo’s.
Petcube’s Bites 2 was released in 2020, so it supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi connections. It is very convenient because a lot of modern wireless routers work on the 5 GHz frequency.
Furbo is a bit older than Bites 2, and it connects only to 2.4 GHz networks. It can create some obstacles and connectivity issues as this frequency is not as stable as 5 GHz.
There is no information on the frequency Petzi supports. But we think it’s safe to assume that this camera supports only 2.4 GHz networks since this device was released a while ago.
Petcube’s Bites 2 wins this round. However, note that the previous version of Bites doesn’t support 5 GHz networks.
Indoor or outdoor using
Bites 2 wasn’t designed for outdoor use. But as long as this camera is not exposed to moisture, extreme cold or heat, or other things that can harm any digital device, Petcube will be fine. So you can use it as an outdoor camera occasionally when the weather is good.
The same conditions apply to Furbo that will not survive snow or rain. Also, you shouldn’t leave it under direct sunlight since it can damage the camera.
Petzi is also not designed for outdoors. However, we suppose that it will work fine as well if you don’t expose it to moisture and extreme weather conditions.
None of these cameras are designed for outdoor use, so there is no winner here. All gadgets can be used outside if the weather is good.
Petcube Bites 2 is the best dog camera with a dispenser. To be fair, mostly, it only wins because it is the most recently released gadget in our comparison. Thus, way more issues are fixed. Bites 2 is not the cheapest option, but its quality is worth the money, and it’s unlikely that you will regret this purchase.
Petcube will provide you with a simple and efficient app that doesn’t freeze and high quality of both the picture and the two-way sound. You will see and hear your pet clearly, and your dog will listen to your voice without distortions. Also, the treat dispenser works reliably, and there are no reports about it getting jammed.
But if you need the camera solely for watching over your dog at night, Furbo will be a more suitable option since its night vision works slightly better. Although, the night vision if Bites 2 is also quite good and clear.
